Community Submitted Question:
Group Member Tonya Asks: “Can a person put lighting that has the current gold finishes in a bathroom? Will it rust cuz of the dampness?”
Heather’s Solution:
I love this question! I’ve seen both homeowners and designers use incorrect light fixtures for the application. A huge safety violation is when there’s a chandelier over a bathtub and there’s less than 8’ between the bottom of the light fixture and the tub. 99% of the time, the chandelier should not be over the tub. Now that’s I’ve gotten off my soap box, let’s talk about vanity lighting in a bathroom. When selecting a light for a bathroom, it should be damp-rated.
When looking at light fixtures online (or even in person), the specifications will note if the fixture is damp rated or wet rated. Damp rated or wet rated fixtures are great options for a bathroom.
Finding a damp-rated fixture isn’t typically that difficult, thankfully!
