Here at Innovatus Design, we absolutely love adding plants to our interior design projects. By adding these pops of greenery to your home, you can not only reap an abundance of health benefits, but also improve the overall look of a space in an instant. They can be easily changed, moved around—and added to of course—making them excellent finishing touches to almost every room.
Real plants should be placed near natural light so they can flourish.
Indoor plants are well known for their positive properties in that they help to boost mood, productivity, concentration, and creativity (by up to 15%!) while cleaning the air around us. They can also reduce stress and fatigue as they absorb toxins.
Adding greenery to your home through plants bring spaces alive. They can simultaneously provide privacy if needed. You can be really strategic in the placement of indoor plants; should you have wires hanging around or things you need to cover, you can easily place a potted plant in front of anything you need to cover up so the focus is shifted to purely on the plant.
If you’re not a massive lover of color in an interior, adding plants is an easy and effective way of doing so without compromising your minimalist aesthetic. Conversely, if you’re a huge lover of color, plants will only positively increase the amount of color in your home, creating a truly vibrant atmosphere.
These are just a few of the incredible reasons why we love working with plants in an interior.
In today’s post, we will take you through the areas of the home you can easily add some plants to and some really fun and interesting ways of doing this. Are you ready to take a closer look?
What and Where to Interject Plants
Several plants of different sizes can be placed together in a grouping.
Some of the most beneficial plants to have in the home are the following:
- Spider Plant – known for removing formaldehyde from the air
- Aloe Vera – essential for its medicinal healing properties
- Lavender – best known for its stress-relieving properties, and great for bedrooms to help you sleep better
- Snake Plant – perfect for the bedroom, as it’s one of the most popular choices for improving indoor air quality
- Rosemary – a herb traditionally used in folk medicine to help improve concentration and memory
- Peace Lily – This beautiful indoor plant is powerful as it helps master air pollutant removal.
- Boston Fern – a well known natural humidifier, one of the best air purifying plants
So where exactly should we be displaying these plants?
First and foremost they should all be placed in an environment where they will be likely to thrive, so always follow the recommendations of your supplier or local garden center.
Small plants are perfect for use on a window sill.
In terms of the rooms you can keep plants in, you can have plants in pretty much every room of the house if you’d like…. However, we would recommend two or three plants in key rooms of the house. For example the living room, kitchen, dining room, and master bedroom. You can display small plants on window sills, herbs within the kitchen make beautiful and practical displays. Succulents look great on coffee tables and larger plants can be planted within baskets in the living room, bedroom, or hallway.

Something Different
With indoor plants, you can be really creative with how you display them… One of the ways you can do this is by doing something different.
Typically you find indoor plants within pots, vases, or baskets, but have you ever considered having them displayed within wall planters? There is a wide variety of options with wall planters to suit many different interior styles.
Here are some of our favorites:
The leather hanging strap, ceramic bowl, and brass details are on point with these cute planters.
These wall planters have the look of hanging while mounting flat to a wall. We love how the hangers draw the eye upward. When using these planters, select succulents that also hang over the side to create the perfect composition. If you’re working with a large area, purchase multiple sets of planters to fill the space instead of spreading out one set. Your wall will look more professionally pulled together.
When using these planters indoors, be sure to plug the drainage hole on the bottom so water doesn’t leak down your wall.
Perfect for succulents, these planters can be displayed so they double as art and as a means to bring plants into the home. These unique planters were inspired by golf balls, but we love the sculptural properties they have and see them used in many more spaces than just golf-inspired rooms! We also love using these outside on a deck or wooden fence to add plants where they normally wouldn’t grow.

This trio is perfect for near a window to gain some privacy or to add some greenery when there isn’t much space. The hanging mechanism can be mounted to the ceiling or the wall for extra flexibility.

These planters are perfect for a blend of art and bringing life to a space. Add long flowing plants like we’re showing here to make the most of these planters. We love how they mount to the wall and that the trio is in different sizes.
Easily hang these planters on a wall to brighten up the space.
These white geometric wall planters add interest while keeping plants safe. Use these for smaller plants that aren’t naturally very full for an optimal look. We recommend using these on a contrasting wall so that they stand out.

The Sleek Approach
Traditionally, glass or ceramic vases are the go-to when it comes to displaying indoor plants and they still have their place in design even today. There are beautiful vases on the market which can suit any room design. May of which have different colors running through them and others with modern creative approaches to this traditional piece of glassware.
Top Tip: Pick out a color from your room’s interior and source a textured ceramic vase in these colors. This helps to make a space feel well put together and consistent.

Two-toned geometric style vases are wonderful for creating interest in your home. The shapes are different to your normal styled vase which provides a great addition to any window ledge or bathroom.

We love this vase because of the interesting texture the outside creates. It’s also not a typical round spherical vase, meaning that even the shape brings curiosity. Vases such as these are regarded as unique and look fantastic in all rooms!

Go Big!
This is one of our favorite ways of interjecting plants into a home—using faux trees! If you are able, planting the real thing is ideal, but if you lead a busy lifestyle and struggle to keep up with maintenance then using faux flowers and trees could be the way forward for you.
We love using citrus trees, what’s known as the “rubber” plant (ficus elastica), the Jade plant, and parlor palm.
Palm trees add texture without all the bulk.
We love this faux Areca Palm plant—it’s tall and stable. Add to a tripod style plant pot or tall vase to elevate it even more! Great for adding some greenery to your home.
This six-foot high ficus tree has pretty purple blooms.
Why not add some extra color too? This artificial ficus tree not only adds greenery, but soft pinks too. At 6 feet tall this will easily become a feature to any room.
This faux ficus has a sculptural look to it and works well in any modern space.
With giant striking leaves, this faux tree will add texture and interest to any room… Perfect for any corners or nooks!
If your interior is more traditional, this ficus tree is perfect.
