What is a Breakfast Nook?

A breakfast nook is typically a small area connected to the kitchen to make quick meals like breakfast, easier and quicker to prepare and eat. Typically there is a round table and chairs or banquette-style seating.

The key to a good breakfast nook is being within close proximity to the kitchen so there is less back and forth when preparing and eating breakfast. Sometimes the breakfast nook is within a bay window which adds to the overall design.

The “breakfast nook” was first popular in craftsman homes during the 1920s when families started to spend more time in the kitchen. They add functionality to the kitchen area of the home and make it easy for families to have breakfast together before they go off in separate ways for the day.

Nowadays, breakfast nooks are used in similar ways! But for other times of the day, they are often used as a sunny reading space, or an area for the kids to do their homework.

The great thing about breakfast nooks is that you don’t need a massive space to add one in! An empty corner in the kitchen is all you need to make an impact.
