Elegant Foyer Design
An elegant foyer design is essential for creating a sophisticated and inviting feel to the home. First impressions matter – even with the home! – so it’s important to consider your foyer carefully. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, now is the best time to think about your foyer and what changes to make before the entertaining season begins.
In this Shop the Look feature, I’m going to share my top tips and ideas on creating an Elegant Foyer Design that is perfect for entertaining any time of year!
How to Recognize an Elegant Foyer Design
Creating an Elegant Foyer is simpler than you may initially think! It’s all about creating a balance between being a functional space for guests, but also one that looks great too! An elegant foyer will feature beautiful lighting. This could be a statement pendant or flush mount (depending on the ceiling height available), and wall sconces to provide low lighting later into the evening.
An elegant foyer will also have luxurious or premium materials. Think hardwood or tiled flooring, with a stylish console table, upholstered bench for taking shoes off, and practical storage too if space allows.
You can also style the foyer with candlesticks, plants, lamps, catchall trays, etc.
Foyer Fun Facts:
The word “Foyer” actually originates from France that referred to a waiting room where actors waited off stage before going on-stage to perform. This room was also used for friends and family of the actors and was often decorated elegantly and lavishly. The foyer was popular in French opera houses and theaters alike.
Today though, a Foyer has many different meanings! Typically a Foyer is a large room that is the entrance to a building or home. The larger and more fancier the office, apartment building, or mansion, the more ornate the foyer will be.
