How to Recognize a Maximalist Gallery Wall

Maximalism is the type of design that takes things to the extreme. It’s the opposite of the minimalism saying “less is more”, and is “more is more” instead! This can be applied to Gallery Walls by combining lots of different picture frame styles, shapes, and sizes, to create a completely unique wall display of pictures. Colors and finishes will be mixed too!

Fun Facts:

According to the Architectural Digest, Gallery Walls originated in France during the 1600s when they were called “salon walls”. It was the movement of trying to steer away from the elite way of displaying only a few precious pieces, and instead, Salon Walls were about filling the entire floor-ceiling with works of art. And so a gallery wall was born!

Nowadays, gallery walls can take on many different meanings in the home. If you are a minimalist, you may only have a few frames displayed on a wall, while the maximalist gallery wall will be covered!

We love gallery walls because they are super personal to the family, and you can really express personality through the different frames used.
