Modern Art in Interiors
One aspect of interior design I see many homeowners skip is artwork! Pieces of art can completely transform a space, and inject color and texture into the area too. Many art styles are available, but one trendy and universal style is Modern Art!
In this Shop the Look feature I’m going to share my top tips and ideas on how you can use Modern Art pieces to your advantage in your home!
How to Recognize a Piece of Modern Art
A piece of modern art can take many different forms, but one of the most striking and versatile is modern abstract art (which is pictured a lot in the mood board above). Modern art is super easy to incorporate into any room of the house to really make the space “pop”! Anything from seascapes, bold modern art and textured simple pieces are all associated with modern art.
Fun Facts:
Modern Art actually refers to a period of art created roughly around the 1860s to the 1970s. It is the art movement where traditional practices were thrown aside and experiments were made among many artists. Modern artists explored new ways of seeing the world with fresh ideas. Work moved away from being focused on the narrative, towards abstraction. This is a characteristic that features in a lot of modern art.
The most notable artists for the modern era began with painters like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. These artists were essential to modern art’s development.
During the first part of the 20th century, pre-cubists like Georges Braque, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Jean Metzinger, and Maurice de Vlaminck revolutionized the Paris art world with “wild”, multi-colored, expressive landscapes and figure paintings. This then set the tone for Pablo Picasso who made his first Cubist paintings.
Nowadays, modern art takes on a different meaning. But you can still see the influences of those big modern artists from the 19th and 20th centuries. Quick and cost-effective pieces of art are available from most homeware stores, making art more accessible for all.
