How to Recognize an Outdoor Planter

Outdoor Planters are made from highly durable materials. This is so they can withstand the harsh weather of winter, but still look great come the Spring and Summer months. Plastic, fiberglass, and metal are the most durable materials for outdoor planters as they are more weather-resistant than natural materials. This also means that they are available in a wider variety of colors and sizes! So there is something for every style of outdoor space.

Aside from the standard cylinder-shaped planters, many outdoor planters are available in rectangular shapes, or wall-mounted planters! So no matter how large or small your outdoor space, you can be assured that you can easily add plants.

Fun Facts:

Did you know that planters were historically referred to as “plant containers” or “flowerpots”?

The Egyptians were the first of our kind to use plant containers outdoors, as this was a secure method of moving plants from one environment to another (such as inside to outdoors). The Romans brought potted plants inside during the winter. This is to protect the plants from extreme weather conditions, and also the container they were planted in!

It has only been more recently, with the help of technological advances, that outdoor planters have been made from different materials so they can be left outside without risk of damaging the planter itself.

The most popular planters are made from:

  • Concrete
  • Plastic
  • Fiberglass
  • Ceramic
  • Terracotta
