How to Recognize a Rustic Chic Living Room

A rustic chic living room may look very different between homes, but all have the same principles in common. These key principles include: warm tones, lots of layered textures, wood accents, and sophisticated metals too. Above all though, a rustic chic living room is a cozy and inviting space that you’ll want to curl up in!

While this may be a fairly broad term in terms of design, you could think of it as the transitional style. Taking inspiration from rustic farmhouses but bringing a modern and contemporary feel to it too. Think structured and elegant furniture, paired with wooden and brass accent pieces to bring lots of texture into the space.

Living Room Fun Facts:

Did you know that the living room was referred to as the “death room” In the Victorian era? Yes, you’ve read that correctly! This is because the corpse of a loved one would be displayed, and in later years, post-mortem photographs were taken too. This was very common in both the USA and the UK. But it wasn’t until 1910 that this room was renamed the “parlor” or “living room” in order to remove the negative associations with death.

Towards the mid-1900s, the Living Room was tailored to be a space for the family to gather comfortably, read, or watch television.

Today though, and with the increase of television shows and movies, the living room is one of the most important rooms of the house! It is central to every modern home and is used regularly by all the family as a place to enjoy watching the television, relax, and any other hobbies.
