Have you ever wondered how to get that designer look in bedrooms? The layers of sheets, quilts, plumped cushions, and pillows – these bedding layers add to the finishing touches of any bedroom design and make it look and feel luxurious. If you follow along with any interior designer or homeowner on Instagram, you’ll notice that there’s a massive surge of interest in Bedding Layers! This Trend Alert lets you in on the secret of how to create these luxurious bedding layers. Let’s take a closer look!
Why we love layered bedding!
Layering your bedding finishes off the whole look of the bedroom perfectly. If you’ve been looking to create a hotel-look or luxurious feeling bedroom – bedding layers are a must-have! It’s an opportunity to mix colors, textures, and patterns to create an inviting look for your bed. How you present your bed can have an impact on the overall design of the bedroom – take cues from the colors of the walls or other patterns used.
How to achieve a cozy bed.
Adding different layers through bedding doesn’t need to be complicated. Think about it in the sense of the layers of a cake, and work your way from the base to the top layer (which you see the most of).
First, choose your fitted sheet and flat sheet. I always recommend keeping these simple and selecting a neutral color that will work with lots of different brighter colors or patterns.
Next, you should add some texture! If you use a comforter, find one that has a textured layer or different color than your bed linen beneath.
Then you can go in with a quilt and/or blanket on top!
To finish off the whole look, choose some decorative pillows that complement the other colors and patterns used in the space.
Layered Bedding Mistakes to Avoid
There are some considerations to take into account when thinking of layering bedding in your bedroom…
As with anything in interior design, there is such a thing as having too much. This will be particularly important for smaller bedrooms! It will be easy to make these rooms look overcrowded because of using too many different layers on the bed. You can always use storage baskets to store additional blankets.
When it comes to choosing bed sheets, Egyptian cotton is one of the most luxurious feeling sheets out there. If your budget allows, this should be your go-to for creating a comfortable bed. It’s too easy to go with the cheapest sheets on the market, but the quality often isn’t as good when it comes to bed sheets!
Ways to make this trend last in your home
Bedding layers can last many years in your home when done right!
If you always keep the fitted sheets, flat sheets and cushion covers the same color, brand etc, you can switch out the quilts, shams and blankets really easily to suit any new decor in the room. Keep the basics the same and everything else should fall into place.
Top Tip – Add coordinating shams to the back of the headboard that match the comforter at the end of the bed. This ties all the layers together!
