A fireplace adds ambiance to a space while also being a key focal point to the overall design. Over the years I have refreshed and designed many fireplaces, but one type that stand the test of time are Brick Fireplaces!

Whether it’s red brick or painted, brick fireplaces are an interior trend that is here to stay – and for good reason too. Let’s take a closer look into Brick Fireplaces!

Why we love brick fireplaces!

We have loved adding and refreshing brick fireplaces in our clients’ homes for well over a decade now. They are a key focal point for most living and family rooms, and brick fireplaces in particular provide a timeless design suited for many homes.

Nowadays there are lots of different colorways to bricks that can provide custom options to suit any interior style.

How to use brick fireplaces 

Fireplaces themselves are typically found in the living room or family room. However in many lavish homes there may be scope to install a fireplace within a bedroom or open plan kitchen!

Adding brick to the surround takes a fair amount of labor, however many existing fireplaces will be made with a brick surround. So it may only be a case of restoring or refreshing it!

What to watch out for with brick fireplaces

As with any interior design trend, there are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using brick fireplaces in your home…

If your fireplace is completely made from brick (including the chimney or flue area) it’s crucial to keep up with maintenance. Build up of debris can lead to harmful fumes.

Using the wrong paint on brick surround a fireplace can cause discoloration and even be a fire hazard. It’s extremely important to choose a paint that is suitable for this application.

Ways to make a brick fireplace last in your home

A brick fireplace can last many years in your home!

Make sure to choose a skilled contractor to install your brick fireplace that has had plenty of experience. Brick as a material is extremely durable so you can expect your brick fireplace to last 100 years or more!
