Trend Alert: Contrasting Cabinets
Our team is well-versed in kitchen design and love to problem solve to create the perfect space for our clients. Once the practicalities have been ironed out, the fun really begins with the finishes!
We have designed lots of kitchens with different looks and finishes, but one style in particular is Contrasting Cabinets! These have become extremely popular over the last couple of years, and for good reason.
Whether it’s a simple color change, or different finishes entirely, contrasting cabinets can work in a wide variety of homes. Let’s take a closer look into Contrasting Cabinets!

Why we love contrasting cabinets!
We have loved using contrasting cabinets in our clients projects over the last few years because they are timeless and a creative solution for adding some subtle color into an otherwise boring space. Gone are the days of all white shiny cabinets and similar countertops! Contrasting cabinets enable homeowners to embrace color and contrast in textures more easily.
Not only that, contrasting cabinets are timeless and give a kitchen a luxurious look. There’s no rule that says all cabinets need to match and be the same, so embrace the creative freedom and be bold!

How to use contrasting cabinets
Contrasting cabinet may seem like a scary concept at first. Especially if you’re used to having them all the same color.
One of the easiest ways to embrace contrasting cabinets is by choosing two shades of the same color. The darker shade should be used for the base cabinets and the lighter one for uppers. This will easily create a contrasting look.
What to watch out for with contrasting cabinets
As with any interior design trend, there are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using contrasting cabinets in your home…
If you choose bright colors for the two-tone look the space will quickly look and feel dated. The key to a timeless look with contrasting cabinets is to choose sophisticated and timeless tones.
Ways to make contrasting cabinets last in your home
Contrasting cabinets can last many years in your home!
Make sure to choose good quality cabinets to start with and you’ll be on to a winner! In terms of colors, choose a timeless combination that you absolutely love. This could be a navy blue or forest green, with off-white neutral uppers. For a more visually unique option, choose wooden cabinets with neutrally light painted uppers.
