Why we love it!

Freestanding bathtubs make a fantastic addition to many bathrooms because they add an element of luxury. If you have been searching for ways to up-level your bathroom, adding a freestanding bathtub could be just the ticket! We love using freestanding bathtubs in our bathroom designs (if space allows of course!) because of the luxurious finish they create for the whole room. Plus – there are lots of designs and shapes available so there is something for everyone!

How to use it.

Adding a freestanding bathtub to your bathroom doesn’t need to be complicated. So long as you have space available for one, you’re halfway there!

In order to add a freestanding bathtub to your bathroom, you’ll need to decide on the right shape and finish for the room. Is your bathroom super sleek and modern, or more traditional in design? Use your bathroom’s overall design for an indication as to what sort of bathtub design would look best.

Next, consider the material for the bathtub! Some materials insulate heat and keep the water warmer for longer, while others don’t.

Porcelain-enameled steel is a very popular option as it’s lightweight, durable, and affordable however it can be noisy if the room is not insulated and can lose heat quickly.

Acrylic bathtubs are the next popular material as they are lightweight, durable, and affordable. PLUS they offer good heat retention, unlike porcelain enameled steel.

Fiberglass bathtubs are another affordable option, however, despite being less expensive than acrylic they are also less durable than them too.

To finish the whole look, choose a side table or stool to accessorize with a candle or indoor plant. You can even add extra bath toiletries too if needed.

What to watch for with freestanding bathtubs.

There are some considerations to take into account when thinking of installing a freestanding bathtub in your home…

It’s important that you choose the right bathtub for your budget and overall needs. Ask yourself questions like, “how often do we use a bathtub?” or “would we use a bathtub more if we have a new freestanding one?”. It’s crucial not to install anything new to your home that you won’t use.

When choosing the design of the freestanding bathtub, ensure you choose a timeless finish and style that will never go out of fashion. If in doubt, choose a classic style (example shown below!)

If you regularly use a bathtub, it’s important to prioritize heat retention when choosing a freestanding bathtub. As these tubs are exposed in the room, choose an acrylic material to ensure no heat is lost.
