Trend Alert: Layered Bedding
There’s something so inviting about a beautifully made bed. It’s not surprising then that a lot of our clients want our help in creating a luxurious hotel-like look and feel in their own homes!
The secret? Layered Bedding.
This interior design trend isn’t just about how the bed looks when it’s made though! Layered Bedding is about using different textures and fabrics to create a cozy and inviting bed to enhance your sleep and relaxation.
In this Trend Alert I’m going to take you through the art of Layered Bedding – from the right foundations of bed linen to the finishing touches so you can create a hotel-like bed in your home!

Why we love layered bedding!
We have loved layered bedding for many years. From family vacations and business trip hotel stays – layered bedding is used everywhere to create a luxurious look and feel. The key to a great hotel stay is the layered bedding. Why? It’s comfortable, cozy, inviting, and flexible depending on your needs. The layers provide you with every temperature requirement during the night.
Layered bedding might look complex, but the concept is simple. Different materials are layered on a bed to create a luxurious and hotel-like look!

How to create layered bedding
Creating a luxurious looking bed with layered bedding is about using different components.
Firstly, you’ll want to choose the main bed sheets – a fitted sheet as the base, and a flat or top sheet for the next layer. It’s in between these sheets that you sleep!
Then you can layer a quilt or duvet on top (this may include a contrasting color or main pattern), then a bedspread to finish it off, or a series of throw blankets.
You can also layer the main pillows – choosing both rectangular and square throw pillows for the foundation closest to the headboard, and then add decorative pillows to tie the whole look together.
What to watch out for with layered bedding
As with any interior design trend, there are some considerations to take into account when thinking of layering bedding your home…
Sometimes homeowners get fixated on having ALL the layers, when it fundamentally doesn’t work for them. Or piling on loads of bedding layers can make the space look and feel messy. This is obviously the opposite of what layered bedding is about.
Keep it simple, and using inspirational images as your guide.
Ways to make layered bedding last in your home
Layered bedding can last many years in your home!
It’s all about investing in good quality bed linen and having a variety of duvet/quilt/bedspread layers to choose from depending on the season. Try to stay with the same color theme and rotate different thicknesses depending on the time of year.
