Why we love it!

If you’re a regular reader here or a follower on Instagram, you’ll know that I love to add texture to the interiors I design for my clients. And rattan is a great material to use for doing just that! With the different patterns and stains available, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. Rattan has also been known for its durability, making it a fantastic component for furniture! Pieces of furniture that have been infused with rattan, add visual interest and texture to a space.

How to use it.

Rattan furniture is relatively easy to incorporate into your home. As it is a type of wood, it will add warmth and texture to otherwise dull spaces.

Use rattan bar stools to add depth to your kitchen design, or why not add a fun sideboard that has rattan panels to your dining or living room? Alternatively, you can go all out and add an accent lounge chair to a nook or entryway.

What to watch for.

There are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using rattan furniture in your home…

Firstly, you should avoid placing rattan furniture close to windows, or where they will have exposure to sunlight.

Generally, rattan furniture is very strong and can last a number of years due to its durability, however, this does mean that it can come with a hefty price tag. Some pieces are hand woven so this can push the price upwards too.

Ways to make this trend last in your home

Rattan furniture can last many years in your home!

The first step for ensuring your rattan furniture lasts a lifetime, is to choose a furniture design that you absolutely LOVE. This should also work well with the other finishes in the space you wish to add it to.

If you’re choosing new stools for your kitchen, the metal structure could match your hardware or lighting in the kitchen. For pieces of furniture with rattan panels integrated into the design, what is the rest of the furniture made of? Does this finish work with your room? These are all good questions to ask yourself when shopping for rattan pieces.
