5 Special Ceiling Details You Need To See
Did you know that many homeowners forget to include the ceiling in their home redesign and renovation plans? Every room design should also include the ceiling. Whether it stays the same but with a fresh coat of paint, or something more elaborate is designed – the ceiling always needs to be considered carefully, and be included.
Over the years I’ve helped many clients create their dream spaces. And one element that never gets forgotten is the ceiling!
Today I want to share 5 Special Ceiling Details You Need To See. They may even inspire your next project!

1: Faux Tin Ceiling
There’s something so special about transforming our clients’ spaces. This is especially true when knocking down walls.
When we were designing this client’s dream kitchen, they noted they wanted a long island. Once I dove into the plans, it was clear that visually this space was going to look like a hallway once the walls were removed. That’s not what we wanted for them, so we worked up some ceiling and lighting designs to help balance the space.
Through the design process, it was revealed that my client had always dreamed of a tin ceiling. As an interior designer, the idea of tin in this type of space sent off alarm bells. Tin would bounce sound around dramatically. This couple was already having noise issues between the TV in the adjacent room and the upstairs.
We designed this ceiling with faux tin to break up the long expanse of the room while also being mindful of acoustics. The result is perfection.

2: Wood Paneling
Stunning ceilings can often be implemented simply. Using materials on different surfaces can have surprising results!
When we designed this ceiling, we used stained beadboard. Often beadboard is seen on vertical surfaces for adding wall details, but we changed things around to create a more intimate space here. The direction of the beadboard helps to visually truncate the space which was a huge win too!

3: Add Ceiling Beams
An interesting ceiling doesn’t mean dark and moody, they can still be light and bright! Ceiling beams are great for this, as they add visual interest without darkening the space.
The ceiling beams installed in this new construction home we designed add character to the space. We also love how the beamed area effortlessly divides the kitchen and living area. They really help to define each space instead of having one long and big open plan expanse of space.
The beams were designed relatively deep so they are balanced within the space. We pulled other wood details through the space to create continuity throughout the home too.

4: Wood Veneer Wallpaper
Handmade, hand-laid, wood veneer wallpaper for the win.
Yes, it’s lux, and it required a special wallpaper installer to hang it, but it was totally worth it. This wallpapered ceiling was quite the feat to get installed. We stayed the course and made it happen. We had a vision of creating an intimate space for the family to enjoy board games and socialize with friends, and the wood veneer wallpaper helps to achieve this.
Our client loves the warmth the warm wood wallpaper provides in their remodeled basement.

5: Layered Ceiling Plates
When the ceiling heights are soaring, the possibilities are endless!
We loved working with this client on their new construction home. The goal with the ceiling treatment was to create definition for the furniture arrangement below so everything felt more connected, despite the high ceilings.
The layering effect takes advantage of the high ceilings and creates visual interest.
