Benjamin Moore White Down – The Creamy Off-White Paint Color
Did you know that one of the hardest decisions to make when it comes to a house renovation or remodeling project is which paint color to use? It’s true – the amount of posts related to paint colors in our Facebook Group is crazy! Even in discussions with our interior design clients, many have said that choosing paint colors has been a nightmare in the past.
These are just some of the reasons why I have decided to feature our tried and tested paint colors with their very own article. And today, I want to focus on Benjamin Moore White Down (OC-131)!
Benjamin Moore White Down is a soft light cream paint color that appears more like a warm off-white. According to Benjamin Moore, they have described White Down as, “The barest cream undertone gives this cozy white its feathery softness.”
Let’s explore White Down in more detail and discuss how you can use it in your own home!

Why We Love Benjamin Moore White Down!
With a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of 76.69, it is closer to the lightest (LRV=100) end than the darker (LRV=0) one. This makes Benjamin Moore White Down a light and creamy off-white paint color that will help to reflect natural light around any space.
As Benjamin Moore White Down (OC-131) has some yellow-y and creamy undertones, many homeowners shy away from using it in their home with fear of it being too yellow. I couldn’t disagree with this more! The warmth from the undertones makes it suitable for a wide variety of applications in the home and we love to have this paint color up our sleeves. You never know when you might need to add some warmth into a space.

How to Use White Down at Home
Benjamin Moore White Down (OC-131) is a great warm and creamy off-white paint color for using on walls, trim, and cabinetry. We love using White Down with other shades of neutral colors like deep and rich browns to really embrace the warmth of the color.
You could even use White Down on cabinets in the kitchen or vanity in the bathroom. However our favorite way to use this warm and creamy off-white paint color is on the walls and trim work of a space.
What to Watch Out for…
With any paint color you choose, there are some considerations to take into account!
As Benjamin Moore White Down is a warm and creamy off-white color it can quickly look like a full on cream or magnolia paint color if it’s paired with too many other warm colors. For this reason we recommend using this paint color on the walls, or any cabinetry items alongside some cooler tones so the whole palette is well balanced.
Ways to Make This Color Last in Your Home
Making White Down last in your home is relatively straight forward. With the different ways you can use this paint color (see above for ideas) there is something for every space! This paint color is particularly helpful for north-facing rooms where the natural light is limited and dull as White Down will inject some welcomed warmth.
Using a crisp white paint color for your trim and ceiling with White Down adorning the walls, a timeless look can be achieved that will never go out of style, and we go back to time and time again. Integrate this color into your home’s accessories to indulge in neutral tones to blend seamlessly with other colors used in your space.
Accent Color Pairings
As Benjamin Moore White Down (bottom left) is a warm neutral paint color, it can actually be paired with a variety of other colors! You can make the warm undertones pop by choosing equally warm shades (such as Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter – top right), or balance the space out with a cool gray paint color (like Benjamin Moore Imperial Gray – top left).
White Down also looks fantastic with a crisp white color like Benjamin Moore Simply White (bottom right). Use Simply White for the trim and ceiling to make White Down really come alive on the walls.
