The Holidays are for making memories with our family and friends, and our homes turn into the main stage. Everyone gathers around a table to enjoy wonderful food and drinks, while laughter flows, games are enjoyed, and more coats are hung by the door.

Whether you’re hosting a lively dinner for the family or having guests stay overnight, it can feel overwhelming to get the house ready and prepared for the big day. It’s important to focus on creating a welcoming and relaxed home for your guests. Spaces that look and feel effortless, and beautifully put-together, make the Holiday season feel even more magical.

Comfortable Seating

Firstly, it’s important to provide comfortable seating for guests during the Holiday season. Deep and comfortable sofas and accent chairs are a must if you have the space to do so! For this living room design, we used a large sectional sofa to provide the main seating, while there are two leather accent chairs (not in view) and additional upholstered ottomans to supplement the seating area if needed.

We love to use ottomans or stools in living room designs so our clients have additional seating available at a moment’s notice. These can be particularly helpful for smaller homes too.

Luxury Guest Bedroom

Creating a luxury guest bedroom for your guests should be a top priority. Invest in a good quality mattress and topper if required to ensure your guests have a restful overnight stay.

For bed linen, a classic white 100% high-thread count cotton is always a winner! Make sure to layer the bed with a quilt, blankets, and throws so a customized level of warmth can be achieved. You can even fold up additional blankets on an accent chair just in case guests need anything extra.

Soft, neutral colors always look effortless and feel luxurious to guests. We love the soft, feminine tones of this bedroom we recently designed. It’s a quiet luxury that guests will always appreciate and feel calm and relaxed in.

Plenty of Dining Seating

The dining area is undoubtedly one of the main entertaining spaces for the Holidays. And while some homeowners may not have the largest dining area, you can always use an extendable dining table or fold-down tables to extend the dining table and seat more guests.

For this dining room design, we chose soft wood tones to create a quiet sense of luxury, while the light colored upholstered dining chairs add a stylish element to the space. If you’re short on space for your dining area, have some extra dining chairs hidden away somewhere that you can bring out for entertaining purposes.

Guest Bathroom Amenities

Now on to the guest bathrooms! There’s nothing better than walking into a guest bathroom and having everything you need already there.

We recommend rolling or folding hand towels next to the sink on the vanity, or have a fresh one hung on a towel ring with spares neatly folded nearby. If you have wall-mounted shelves or an open storage area, fold guest towels neatly on them and make sure to let your guests know where they can find more. We like to show as many towels as possible so guests feel comfortable.

Next to the sink, consider a matching set of hand wash and hand lotion with a luxurious scent. Add a reed diffuser too, so the room always smells fresh.

Welcoming Entry

The foyer of your home sets the tone for the rest of the spaces beyond. Therefore, creating a warm and welcoming entryway should be a top priority! Neutral home decor and furniture are a powerful combination for creating a welcoming space.

Provide a soft seating area for guests to remove their shoes, and a storage area for hanging coats. Add fresh seasonal flowers to a statement vase on a console table, and accessorize with a mirror and soft ambient lighting. Use a carpet runner or area rug (depending on the size and orientation of the entry area) to soften the area even more and create a quiet luxury look and feel.
