Here at Innovatus Design, we always address the ceiling space! We love elevating a space through ceiling treatments, and one we have been loving recently is Wood Ceilings!
This Trend Alert focuses on Wood Ceilings as we share our top design tips and considerations to take into account when considering using wood planks or paneling on the ceiling. Let’s take a closer look!
Why we love wood ceilings!
We love wood ceilings because they easily add warmth and extra texture into a space. It’s one of the most underrated ways of bringing extra character into an interior, which is why we love to use them in many of our projects!
There are lots of different ways you can add wood ceilings into your home. So no matter what style of home you have, there are lots of options on the market from types of wood ceilings, to color and stain!
How to use Wood Ceilings.
Adding a wood ceiling to your home is relatively straightforward!
It’s important to carefully consider where a wood ceiling would be best placed. Do you already have structural beams showing like in the image below to the left? If so, it can be as simple as finding some reclaimed wood beams and getting a carpenter to fit them. Alternatively, you can easily fake this look by cladding structural beams with large timber planks.
Alternatively, consider using wood planks to define a specific area in a space like the large image above. Similarly to installing timber flooring, it’s the same principle for adding them to the ceiling.
What to watch out for with Wood Ceilings
There are some considerations to take into account when considering wood ceilings for your home…
Not all spaces are suited for having a wood ceiling. Smaller rooms in particular can be made to feel even smaller if a dark wood ceiling is installed. However lighter wood could add visual interest and texture to the space. It’s important to consider each space carefully, alongside what your goals are for the finished design.

As with any other design decision, it’s important to consider it carefully. While adding full paneling or planks to your ceiling may not be an option, adding timber beams could make all the difference!
It’s important to select a timeless wood stain, and one that will work perfectly with the other materials in the space. Oak, pine, and walnut are all timeless finishes that will complement most homes!
