Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog – 2022 Color of the Year
It’s official! Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) has been announced as their 2022 Color of the Year!! And I couldn’t be happier about it. Sage and olive greens have been trendy interior design colors for a while now and it’s great to see this one being recognized as the focus moves away from cool grays to warmer and earthier tones.
Evergreen Fog is a tranquil gray-green. Taking inspiration from nature, this color is ideal for 2022’s Color of the Year as the whole world starts to focus more heavily on the environment and our planet. The word “evergreen” itself is defined as something that doesn’t change color or is timeless, and Evergreen Fog is certainly that!
While Evergreen Fog is a warm green color, it does feature greige undertones making this an ideal paint color for both cool and warm spaces. This paint color is adaptable for use throughout the home.

Why We Love It!
With the interior design trends leaning more towards warmer colors and tones rather than cool grays, Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) encompasses this shift perfectly. This paint color is a beautiful combination of green, sage, olive, greige and gray all wrapped into one.
The versatility of Evergreen Fog is something that will keep many homeowners coming back for many years to come. After all, we want to create a home that is timeless – one that we will love to spend time in for many years without it feeling boring – and this paint color does exactly that.
How to Use Evergreen Fog at Home
Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) is a versatile paint color that can be used in a variety of ways in your home.
This paint color isn’t for relegating to a single piece of furniture or cabinets, it is actually the perfect green paint color for using on all four walls, if you wish to choose that route.
If you’re looking to make a statement in a room though, or a color to paint some new wall panelling with, Evergreen Fog is the perfect color for this! This will bring warmth to the space and provide a backdrop to use more rich and deep colors too.
Pair Evergreen Fog with deep and rich colors to bring out the desired undertone. Use mustard yellows, browns and beiges to help balance the color out, or even deep charcoal grays and neutral creams.
What to Watch Out for
There are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog in your home.
The first being the “muddy” trap that is often associated with warmer colors. Using too many warm and earthy tones in one space can be too much, overcrowded and seem “muddy” (especially when using more brown tones with this color).
While this paint color is great to use alone within a space of other neutrals, it may appear a little boring and unfulfilled. To avoid this, pair Evergreen Fog with neutrals and one other accent color too to bring the interior to life.
Accent Color Pairings
No blog post of this kind would be complete without some ideas on color schemes for your home! Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) can be paired with a variety of colors, or simply pair it with neutral colors to create a feature out of it.
With Evergreen Fog’s undertones being mainly warm, lean into this to create an inviting and cozy interior space. Or pair it with a cooler color to bring balance and harmony instead.
Here are some color palettes I have put together to show you just how versatile this color can be!
