Bougie Closets
Over the years I have been asked to design a wide variety of spaces for clients, and it’s interesting to see the requirements for these spaces evolve over time. One area of the home that has become increasingly popular, and is now a regular request, is a Bougie Closet! Sometimes this means going all out with the design and accessories, or simply giving an existing closet a makeover. Either way – the Bougie Closets you see on Instagram are a popular requests from clients!
In this Shop the Look feature, I’m going to share my top tips and ideas on how you can create your own Bougie Closet!
How to Recognize a Bougie Closet
A bougie closet can be characterized by a large or walk-in closet that has had a visual glow up! This could be integrated LED strip lighting to shelving, an island in the center of the room, a stylish ceiling light, and matching closet organizers. A bougie closet typically has a few of these aspects included. After all, a bougie closet is completely tailored to the user and their personal taste.
No matter how large or small your closet is, there is a creative way of giving it a bougie facelift!

Closet Fun Facts:
Did you know that a “closet” was originally referring to a small private room? This was typically used as an office space or area for prayer. It was this idea of privacy or secret space that also relates heavily to the Ancient Roman soldiers whom kept their weapons stored in a wooden box that leads to some of the earliest connections to the modern walk-in-closet.
Having a designated area for storing clothes – such as a closet – is a fairly new concept to the 21st Century. This is due to the fact that people didn’t have a lot of clothes before, and would usually store them in freestanding furniture such as dressers or chests.
Nowadays, closets are usually integrated into the house or apartment’s design! It could be a simple concept of opening doors to reveal a clothes rod with shelving below, or something much more elaborate like a walk-in room.
