Cozy Family Room Design
I don’t know about you, but our family loves to hang out in the family room because it feels more relaxed than in the living room. We love to spend evenings under the throw blanket watching a good movie with the kids. It’s a place that feels comfortable and cozy throughout the year! Having a cozy family room is great for entertaining too.
In this Shop the Look feature I’m going to share my top tips and ideas on how you can create a Cozy Family Room design that doesn’t compromise on style or comfort!
How to Recognize a Cozy Family Room
A family room is typically a more relaxed version of a living room. If your living room is formal, you will feel that the family room is a place for everyone to properly relax, get comfortable, and cozy up. Typically a family room has a deep sectional sofa, storage for kids’ toys or boardgames, cozy accessories, and personality-inspired styling objects on shelves.
The Family Room was started in postwar America (1945-1970), and has quickly become a standard feature of new suburban homes. It demonstrates casualness and informality. Family Rooms were designed to be used everyday, whereas a living room is for more formal entertaining or special occasions.
The key to a successful and cozy family room is a feeling of comfort and being family-friendly, so that everyone can enjoy spending time there. It is said that using the family room is more popular than a living room, purely for this fact!
Another great thing about family rooms is that they can take on many different activities for the family. Do you enjoy watching movies on a Sunday afternoon? Or playing board games together? Perhaps the kids love to play in the family room too. All of this is possible in a cozy and well-designed family room!
