Trend Alert: Patterned Carpet

Carpet has been making a comeback recently, but it’s not the same as what you removed to lay down those beautiful hardwood floors! Even though carpet is gaining popularity, it’s not the same as what you knew before. Look for patterns, plaids, and stripes in the home. Let’s take a closer look!

Why we love it!

We love using patterned carpet in our interior design projects because they provide a lot more interest than standard solid carpets! The carpet used in an interior can bring a whole space to life and provide warmth and texture underfoot.

How to use it.

Luckily, there are a wide variety of colors, textures and patterns to choose from to suit all of your flooring needs. Many patterned carpets these days have modern textures that create warmth throughout and will stand the test of time no matter what decorating updates you make. The great thing about using a patterned carpet that is made from a different material is that they are perfect for high traffic areas such as dining rooms or hallways.

Use patterned carpets in living rooms, bedrooms and even hallways and foyers to create character. If you select a carpet with different colors within it, make sure you have complimentary furniture or accessories to create a totally cohesive design scheme.

Look out for natural carpets made from wool or sisal for an organic look. Carpets that have a tufted or loop pile construction offer the most durability and longevity.

If completely replacing your flooring isn’t for you, look for large area rugs instead to achieve a similar effect.

What to watch for.

There are some considerations to take into account when thinking of using patterned carpet in your home…

Depending on the material you choose they can prove to be difficult to keep clean, and therefore not entirely suitable for children or pets. You can combat this by choosing a dark pattern so marks and stains don’t show as easily. Or select a carpet fiber that’s best for the usage of the space.

If you’re in doubt about using a bright colored pattern for the flooring in your home, consider using a more neutral  pattern instead. There are stripes, herringbone and diamond patterned carpets that are neutrally colored so you can be confident with your choice.

Ways to make this trend last in your home

Patterned carpet can last a lifetime in your home if used the right way and paired with other neutral finishes.

Be bold and brave with your color choice and choose something you absolutely love! The same goes for the overall pattern too. If you’re in any doubt always choose a classic pattern like subtle plaid or stripes for a long lasting chic look.
