Outdoor Layered Rugs
For a number of our interior design clients we have recommended layering area rugs within their homes, but we are seeing this method being used externally too! Area rugs are usually used to define a specific area of a space while simultaneously injecting color, pattern, and texture. We can use them in a very similar way in our outdoor areas as well.
In this Shop the Look feature we’re going to share our top tips and ideas on how using Outdoor Layered Rugs can completely elevate your outdoor space, so you can enjoy more fresh air this Spring and Summer!
How to Recognize an Outdoor Area Rug
Thankfully there are lots of options for outdoor area rugs these days. Many rugs are being made so that they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. But what does this mean? And what should you be looking for in an outdoor rug?
Firstly, it’s the material from which they are made from. Most outdoor rugs are made from polypropylene or synthetic fibers. This material is resistant from weather, stains, and UV, making it the perfect material for layering rugs outdoors.
Rugs that are suitable for outdoor use are also a lot thinner than usual rugs we’d use indoors, so this can be a key aspect to recognize an outdoor rug by.
Layering Outdoor Rugs Fun Facts:
Rugs were first made over 5,000 years ago, and they were hand-woven out of natural materials like camel, sheep, and goat hair. The handmade techniques are still used today to make rugs, however many outdoor rugs are made with machinery. This helps to keep the overall costs down, along with using synthetic fibers.
Layering outdoor rugs is a fun process. Use an extra layer plain style outdoor rug as the base, then add a smaller patterned or colorful rug on top! This creates a layered effect that is stylish and fun for the outdoors.
We love to use outdoor rugs in high-traffic areas of the home too! Such as the hallway, family dining rooms, and kitchens.
