Sherwin Williams Alabaster – A Timeless White
Paint colors play an integral part in any interior design project. But are you aware that I select paint colors last? That’s right! Selecting the paint color for a space is often one of the last elements I decide on. Even after upholstery fabrics, flooring, accessories, and other elements of the room, the paint color is often chosen last.
The reason for this is that there are so many different shades of paint colors, undertones to consider, not to mention the different paint color brands too! It’s often easier to choose the paint color for a space once all the larger elements have been decided on, rather than choosing a paint color with a blank canvas – the choice is too overwhelming.
And this is the story for many homeowners – choosing paint colors is an overwhelming process. This is one of the reasons we have started to focus on one paint color at a time and really dive deep into what that color is, the undertones, how to use the color, what to pair it with, and what to watch out for when using the paint color too.
Today we’re focusing on a timeless paint color – Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008)!
Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) is a heavenly soft off-white paint color. It is warm, soft, yet a well balanced white paint color. Many people ask whether there is a gray or beige undertone to the color, but there’s neither, it is clear that it’s a white paint color when presented with a gray or beige.
Let’s explore more of Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) by discussing how you can use this paint color at home, and make it last!
Why We Love Sherwin Williams Alabaster!
Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) is an extremely versatile paint color that we love to use in our interior design projects. Instead of using a stark and bright white paint color, choosing Alabaster gives warmth to a space that feels homely and welcoming. We love to use this paint color if a client isn’t ready to commit to full-on color, but doesn’t want blank white walls either.
Above all though, we love this paint color because it creates a peaceful and timeless foundation to any home interior!

How to Use Alabaster at Home
Sherwin Williams Alabaster (SW 7008) can be used in a variety of ways in the home! Don’t be put off by the warmth of the color, as it can be incorporated differently in each space. Alabaster is a particularly good paint color to use if you’re afraid to commit to a full on color, but don’t want plain white walls either.
The most obvious use for Sherwin Williams Alabaster is of course as a wall paint color, but it can also be used for ceilings, trimwork, cabinets, furniture, and even exteriors too! It is a great white paint color to have up your sleeve.
What to Watch Out for…
As with any paint color you choose for your home, there are some considerations to take into account when you’re thinking about using Sherwin Williams Alabaster.
While Alabaster isn’t a stark, harsh, bright white paint color, it is very much a warm, soft white that can look very different in some spaces. This paint color will appear to be much warmer in sunny or south facing rooms which can make it appear slightly yellow, even though there isn’t any yellow in the color. And in darker spaces, or north facing rooms, it can bring a well needed balance to the space.
It’s really important to get paint samples of the colors you’re considering to ensure you choose correctly for your specific space.
Ways to Make This Color Last in Your Home
It’s relatively easy to make Sherwin Williams Alabaster last in your home as it’s such a versatile paint color! You can easily use this color as all-over wall paint to all four walls of a room, or simply use it for cabinets, or trim.
We love seeing furniture painted in Alabaster as it can add a lovely warmth to any space! Consider up-cycling an old piece of furniture or paint your kitchen island cabinets or bathroom vanity unit!
Make sure to use a crisp white paint color on the ceiling and trim work to make sure the true essence of Alabaster shines through!
